DiFS: Distributed Flow Scheduling for Data Center Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
Data center networks leverage multiple parallel paths connecting end host pairs to offer high bisection bandwidth for cluster computing applications. However, state of the art distributed multi-pathing protocols such as Equal Cost Multipath (ECMP) use static flow-to-link assignment, which is loadoblivious. They may cause bandwidth loss due to flow collisions on a same link. Recently proposed centralized scheduling algorithm or host-based multi-pathing may suffer from scalability problems. In this paper, we present Distributed Flow Scheduling (DiFS) for data center networks, which is a switch-only distributed solution. DiFS allows switches cooperate to avoid over-utilized links and find available paths without centralized control. DiFS is scalable and can react quickly to dynamic traffic, because it is independently executed on switches and requires no synchronization. Extensive experiments show that the aggregate bisection bandwidth of DiFS using various traffic patterns is much better than that of ECMP, and is similar to or higher than that of a recent proposed centralized scheduling algorithm.

Centralized Congestion Control and Scheduling in a Datacenter
We consider the problem of designing a packet-level congestion control and scheduling policy for datacenter networks. Current datacenter networks primarily inherit the principles that went into the design of Internet, where congestion control and scheduling are distributed. While distributed architecture provides robustness, it suffers in terms of performance. Unlike Internet, data center is fu...

The availability of sufficient and economic online capacity to support the network while encountering disturbances and failures leading to supply and demand imbalance has a crucial role in today distribution networks with high share of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), especially Renewable Energy Resources (RESs). This paper proposes a two-stage decision making framework for the Distribution...
متن کاملDynamic Distributed Flow Scheduling with Load Balancing for Data Center Networks
Current Flow Scheduling techniques in Data Center Networks(DCN) results in overloaded or underutilized links. Static flow scheduling techniques such as ECMP and VLB use hashing techniques for scheduling the flows. In case of hash collision a path gets selected number of times resulting overloading of that path and underutilization of other paths. Dynamic flow scheduling techniques like global f...
متن کاملAnalysis and Comparison of Load Flow Methods for Distribution Networks Considering Distributed Generation
Conventional passive distribution networks are changing to modern active distribution networks which are not radial. Conventional load flow methods should be modified for new distribution networks analysis. In modern distribution networks distributed generation (DG) units are embedded with conventional and/or renewable resources. DG units are generally modeled as PV or PQ nodes which inject ...
متن کاملFlow Scheduling Strategies for Minimizing Flow Completion Times in Information-agnostic Data Center Networks
Minimizing the flow completion time (FCT) is widely considered as an important optimization goal in designing data center networks. However, existing schemes either rely on the precondition that the size and deadline of each flow is known in advance, or require modifying the switch hardware, which is hard to implement in practice. In this paper, we present MCPF, a flexible and dynamic flow sche...
